It’s 1:41 p.m. July 24th. Take a moment. Imagine that the next
blink of your eyes will suddenly transport you to an uninhabited island.
Upon exploring your new residence, you discover freshwater streams,
fruits, vegetables and enough wild game to sustain you indefinitely.
From all vantage points, all that can be seen from your island is endless
Initially, you spend the majority of your days wondering how
the hell you got into this predicament but contemplating and analyzing
won’t change you, your island, or your circumstances. Yes, you were
minding your own business. Yes, you were content stringing along one
day to the next. YES, you too were simply debating what to do this
weekend like everyone else, but none of that matters now. In one
instant blink of your eye, everything you knew and thought mattered
disappeared. Your cell phone’¦gone. Your emails’¦gone. Your friends,
your family, your job, your bank accounts, your pin numbers, your golf
game, your pilates instructor’¦all gone. All of the bridges connecting
you to everyone and anything have burned up in smoke. There is no social
ladder to climb (no Jones’ to keep up with). There are no taxes to pay,
trips to plan, or gasoline to buy. There is no school, no class and no internet.
The only surf is the one on the front porch of your island.
With no more bridges, you are totally disconnected from the
rest of the world. Every concern, from dishes in the dishwasher to
debates over the skin color or age of our next president, has vanished.
But, before you are lured into the trap of believing you’ve been short
changed by this hand that you’ve been dealt, keep in mind that with
every bridge burned you are given time as your present. Every anxiety
is now replaced with precious time to spend on your own personal and
soulful island. Here, on your island, is the time to find yourself if
you’re willing. You can spend this time going crazy because you’re by
yourself or find peace in knowing how to be with yourself. The decision
is yours. Chaos or order. Only one can rule your island. When you find
order, the bridges will come back, and this time you will know which ones
to choose to take you where you want to go.
Talk to you next time,
