8) It Was Time Already!!!

Kevin and I had been dating for five long years, IT WAS TIME ALREADY!!! We had been together through everything, including spending the last five Christmas mornings together with my entire family. I was very eager to get engaged and finally start our life together, but I felt my dear Kevin dragging his feet. I began to think of the quilt I had made for him the first Christmas we spent together and the words "FOREVER" I had hand stitched in the corner to represent our relationship. He was never afraid dating but he was sure scared of marriage. I was beginning to think our treasured "FOREVER" was going to turn into "FOREVER SINGLE".

My birthday was a week a way and I was secretly dying for an engagement ring. I had not mentioned this to Kevin because after all the talks about marriage I had brought up; it seemed like a 1 in a million possibility of actually happening. He was so worried about money, school and being more financially secure before making the big step. By my calculations, we would have to date another fifteen years before he would ever feel ready to get married!

Kevin is an avid cyclist and told me there was going to be a bike race up the canyon the next weekend and wanted to drive the course to check it out. Sounded great, a beautiful summer drive up the canyon. He found a cool lookout spot, so we pulled over and got out of the car to view the beautiful scenery. I was looking at the gorgeous mountains and didn’t notice Kevin coming behind me, when I turned around he was bent on one knee and reveled the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. He then reached behind his back and displayed a large box tied with a gold bow. Inside was a journal Kevin had been keeping since our first Christmas together, it was five years of memories and was over a 1,000 printed double-sided pages. The first entry read You are the woman I am going to marry. You have made me the sweetest gift I have ever received and I cant wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Needless to say, I said, "yes", through my tears. My dear Kevin had been ready for marriage for the last five years. It was the most romantic proposal and we now have a journal of our courtship to treasure forever.
