The day after Thanksgiving was my day off from work, so I planned on sleeping in the next morning. To my suprise, my alarm clock went off at 8:30am that day! Knowing full well that I did not set my alarm the night before, I got suspicious and called Rob on his cell phone. He sounded like he had been expecting my phone call and asked me to come over to his apartment right away. I quickly dressed and drove over to the apartment. Not knowing what was going on, I knocked on the door. No one answered, so I let myself in. As soon as I opened the door, there was a Christmas tree all lit up in the dining area. On the kitchen counter to my right, I found a long-stemmed red rose and a card that read ‘a place you’ve been longing to go, a recent musical was also named after it.’ I turned the card over and it told me to rush home and pack my bags- I was going to Chicago! I had never been there and had always wanted to go, so I was thrilled! My itinerary was attached, but it was only for one person? I ran back home, packed a suitcase and had my mother drive me to the airport. As I was walking toward my gate, I heard ‘will a Crystal associated with Rob please come to the desk.’ When I reached the attendant, she handed me another long-stemmed red rose and another card that said ‘I know you’d make it, there will be another card waiting for you at your next gate.’ As my plane landed, I heard over the intercom, ‘Crystal Ordemann, please see the gate when you deplane.’ The next rose and card asked me to go to the Millennium Knickerbocker on the Magnificent Mile. When I arrived, I found another rose and card at the check-in desk with a room key. I took the elevator up to the room where I found another rose, a bottle of chilling wine, and note asking me to put on my prettiest dress and go around the corner to the Hancock Tower. Walking through all of the snow flurries, I found myself receiving another rose and card at that front lobby asking me to meet Rob at the Signature Room on the 95th floor. The woman then instructed me to go to the front of the long line as they were waiting for me. When I reached the front of the line, I was told to get on the elevator last so that I would be able to exit first. When I got off of the elevator, I approached the reservation desk and told them who I was and that I was there to meet a Rob Kachmar. The woman behind the first seemed to get excited and told me that she would take care of me. She checked my coat and walked me around the corner of the restaurant. Apparently, there was a cloud over the city that had just cleared by the time I reached the floor. The woman asked me if I saw him (Rob) and left me. Rob was standing next to the best table in the house. As I walked toward him, I tried to talk to him, but he would not respond, he just handed me a stack of cards and the other six roses to make a dozen to what I had already collected along the way. The cards read (one for each rose) ‘I Love You, I Love You, I Love You, Will, You’ and then I ran out of cards. I looked up and he knelt down and said ‘Will you marry me?’ I of course said yes and he slipped a beautiful five stone platinum ring on my finger! It was a fairytale!
