We had planned several months prior to go on a cruise for our birthdays. (My birthday being Nov 10 and his being Nov 13th.) So we cruised from Galveston on Carnival Cruise lines from Nov 10th to the morning of the 15th.
On November 11, 2008 Chris and I were roaming around the cruise ship. It was an entire day out at sea before we arrived to our first port of call–Progeso, Mexico. So we’re giving ourselves a tour of the ship, taking pictures, and recording video footage. After lunch, Chris told me that his tummy didn’t feel well and needed to go to the restroom (which really wasn’t the case, as I later found out).
So we stop near a cafe’ on the ship and I waited for him on a bench. As I was waiting, I was skimming through the photos and video footage we had accumulated already…and then at about 2 pm, Chris comes rushing over. He began to tell me that a couple from dinner, who was celebrating their one year anniversary, needed our help. The husband was trying to do something special for his wife and we needed to go meet them in the ship theater where shows are hosted. So we rushed off to the theater because we had to hurry so the husband could do his thing. We got into the theater and there were a few people sprinkled about and the couple was sitting in their seats.
We went over to them and then ‘Step in the name of Love’ started playing. And Chris was like ‘babe let’s dance’. And I’m thinking how I ALWAYS have to beg Chris to dance. So he pulls me up toward the stage..and we pass by the couple..and I say to them "He NEVER dances!"…but I said what the heck and went on to the stage with him.
So we’re up there dancing and in the middle of the song…he drops to one knee, pulls out the ring box from his pocket, and asks me to marry him!!! I was so overcome with emotion that I ended up almost falling to my knees as well! He stood, held me, and through all the emotion I managed to squeeze out my answer–which was of course YES! The audience that had gathered waiting for the next event in the theater began to "awwwwwwww" and clap. Once the song went off, I heard an array of "Congratulations!!!!" Which wasn’t from the audience, but from many of our family members and friends. Chris had secretly recorded them sending their best wishes and congratulations. There were words from My Mother, brother, sister, neices and nephew, my friends, his friends, his family, co-workers, church members, and even Dee and Fred from Diamond Cutters International! Everyone already knew!
After watching the video, we exited the stage, greeted by a big spotlight shed on us, and applause and "congrats" from the audience. Not to mention those who wanted to see my ring! lol It was definitely a moment to remember and one that we actually have on video! The couple that I THOUGHT we were going to help…actually helped us by recording it while we were on stage. So that’s the story!!! We went to the room afterwards and watched the full dvd he had put together, which included an appearance and prayer by my new Fiance’ at the end.
Now we are taking the recorded messages from our family and friends to combine with the proposal footage–to have a dvd that we can treasure forever!
