5) Wedding Fever

Billy and I met in high school where he played football and I was the football manager. After graduation we went on with our lives both in relationships but we remained friends. It wasn’t until April of 2000 when we decided to finally to become a couple after both our long-term relationships failed. He told me that if we were not going to be together then he could not even be my friend. It was at that time I realized I didn’t want to ever lose him and I knew I would marry him eventually.

In May of 2001 I had our daughter and have been hinting around about getting engaged since. Then on Valentines Day Billy and I had plans to go to the Houston Rodeo to see Alan Jackson. While at the show I got fever and felt really bad so we ended having to leave early.

When we got to my car Billy asked that I close my eyes and said he had a surprise for me. With my head aching I gladly closed my eyes. While I had my eyes closed I felt a lot of stops and turns and had no idea where he was taking me. Well we finally came to a stop and Billy told me not to open my eyes until he said so. So he got me out the car and walked me a good distance. When we stopped walking he finally said I could open my eyes.

When I opened my eyes he was down on one knee with my ring in his hand. We were in the middle of our old high school football field and he said, “I know that you been waiting for this for a long time, and I brought you here because this is like the first place we really met. I love you and want to know if you’ll marry me?” Of course I said yes and felt so much better for that moment. It was so unexpected because I was sick and because it was already the end of the night. So after being friends for so long we are now taking the next step in becoming a family.
