4) Let's Go to the Garage

I woke up early on my birthday this year to find my boyfriend of 5 years waiting with a kiss and a birthday card. As I opened it, my eyes started to well up with tears. He quickly grabbed the video camera and said, "Let’s go to the garage." Emotional and confused, I walked to the door. I opened it, with camera rolling, to see this object of some sort in the middle of the garage covered by a sheet.

"Take off the sheet," he instructed.

As I did, I found my suitcase underneath.

"Open it," he said.

I unzipped it and found inside a handmade envelope decorated with pictures cut from various travel magazines. My excitement started to grow as I pulled out a piece of paper that read, You will not be at work on Monday. "Where will you be????"

I turned to the camera, which was still rolling and screamed, "I’m not going to work on Monday?!?!?"

Included on the piece of paper was a list of things to pack. I spent the rest of the day doing laundry and packing the items that were on my list. Sunscreen, bikinis, flip-flops This sounded great. Not quite sure what I was in for or for how long, I packed everything I owned.

Sunday morning came so fast. We got up, got dressed and headed the airport. We pulled up to the curb and got out of the car. The concierge came to take our bags.

"United Airlines," he asked.

"I don’t know," I said.

The concierge, now with a look of confusion on his face, asked, "What’s your destination?"

"Really I don’t know. You’ll have to ask him," I said pointing to my boyfriend, Free.

Free pulled himself from the trunk of the car with our suitcases.

"Chicago," he told the concierge.

My eyes got real big. I was so excited. I have always wanted to go to Chicago. But why would I need sunscreen and my bikinis?

We landed in Chicago and spent the most amazing day sightseeing, eating and visiting all the hotspots in the city. We were staying with friends while we were in Chicago and unbeknownst to me, one of the roommates blurted out our next destination.

"So you’re going to MEXICO, huh?!?!"

Again, my eyes got real big. "Mexico? We were going to Mexico?" I couldn’t handle any more surprises.

Sure enough, the next morning came and we were packing up our things and heading to the airport. After arriving in Mexico, our bus pulled up to the most beautiful resort I have ever seen. We then spent the most incredible week in Mexico. The most amazing day of the whole trip was Tuesday, the 23rd. We spent the whole afternoon at the beach sipping on Pina Coladas and Margaritas.

Around 3:00 we headed back to the hotel and I had to get ready for a visit to the resort spa. Free planned an afternoon at the spa where I was going to get pampered with a massage. After the massage, I headed back to the hotel where we got dressed for dinner. Free had made reservations at the nicest restaurant in the resort. We sat down for dinner and the waiter brought a bottle of champagne that Free ordered while I was at the spa. After dinner, we took a walk on the beach and found a secluded little spot with two chairs and a palapa umbrella. I thought the spot we found was entirely by chance. However, Free walked the beach while I was at the spa and knew exactly where he wanted to take me.
