With these mere words, I hope to portray the excitement, joy, love and creativity that my true love inspires in me. Over the period of your 4yr relationship, I was able to keep a lot of our memorabilia. Everything from the ticket stub of our first movie date, to the newspaper clippings from her first LSU baseball game that we attended, to the lift tickets of our first snow skiing trip in Colorado. When we first started dating, I bought Cherie several little gifts for her birthday and placed them at various locations throughout the local mall. For her to receive her gift, she had to tell the store attendant Big Daddy John Sent Me. For my proposal, I wanted to do something a little bit more elaborate and personnel.
I made a large 7 piece puzzle out of plastic board; each puzzle piece had a theme. To name a few, one piece as covered in nothing but movie ticket stubs, another displayed various meal receipts from dinners we shared together, while another showed the cover of the history text book used in the college class in which we met. On the back of each puzzle piece was a riddle and hits about the location of the next puzzle piece.
The day of the big surprise, I scattered the puzzle pieces throughout the mall at various stores and clued-in the store employees of the action. With each puzzle piece, Cherie would receive a gift from that particular store and clues about the next puzzle piece. There was one catch to Cherie receiving the puzzle pieces. Before she could receive the next surprise, Cherie had to tell each store attendant yet another phrase, "Big Daddy John Strikes Again." I also recruited Cherie’s best friend. The scavenger hunt started at her friends house, her friend in turn said very casually, "Let’s video this, this sounds like it’s going to be fun. We can all watch it later." Cherie had no idea what was really going on.
Meanwhile, I was at a local restaurant, where I had reserved a large banquet room. Myself and about 40 of our closest friends and family waiting for Cherie to come get her last puzzle piece. I was waiting at the restaurant with the last puzzle piece, which contained the engagement ring. When she walked into the room, I was on bended knee. With tears of joy in her beautiful eyes, she said yes.
Fortunately enough for us, this entire experience was caught on tape. It is something that we will cherish for many, many years to come. Thank you Diamond Cutters International for the opportunity to share with you such a memorable moment in our lives.
