June 10th was the celebration of my graduation from my dietetic internship. Graham had promised me a surprise dinner and night away from home. He said it was a present for completeing my internship. I was very excited and could not wait to see what he had planned for us. I am terrible at waiting for surprises, and he had planned this one for over a month!
That evening we left for the ‘surprise’ place and I immediately knew where we were going. Sycamore Mineral Springs, in Avila Beach. It is a natural springs beauty/retreat where you can relax in a wood-tub on a tree covered hillside. We often visit there and relax in the tubs with champagne, chocolate and strawberries. It is our favorite thing to do to relax and spend quality time together. He had reserved a night in the cottage, with it’s own hot tub and gorgeous room. I was such a lucky girl!
We went for a stroll on the nearby trail, played in the labrynth, and then went to dinner at the restaurant. Dinner was amazing, filet mignon. It was what followed that was even more amazing.
When we got back to the room, I noticed the lights were left on. We had not left them on? Did they have a service where they turned down the sheets? I asked Graham? When I opened the door I saw a rainbow colored rose petal pathway on the floor leading to the bedroom. A dozen red roses where on the table in a beautiful arrangement.
WOW, honey, all this for my graduation! You are the best! I was astonished, did the hotel people set this up? WOW.
He said to go check out the bedroom, thus I followed the petal pathway. And to my surprise there was a heart made of petals on the bed. It was beautiful! He had disappeared while I was checking out the bedroom, and soon he appeared in the room with me.
"Honey you are so sweet to do all this for me, I love it! Thank you," I said. He stood behind me and I could feel him shaking. That’s odd, why is he shaking so much, I thought. He hugged me close from behind and said, " I just wanted to find a way to show you how much I love you and how much I want to spend the rest of my life with you." While he was talking I had turned to my left and looked in the vanity mirror and caught sight of his hand holding something. I knew just what it was as he finished his sentence, OH MY GOD!!!!
He turned me around, now he was really shaking like a leaf. He stumbled over his words, got down on one knee and took out the ring box and said, " honey will you marry me?" I smiled and squelled "YES, YES, YES." Things happened so fast that I was spinning from the pleasure and excitement. I was wearing my turquise ring on my middle finger and franticly was trying to tear it off. I threw it on the bed so I could put on the gorgeous platinum solitare-diamond ring.
He said," I haven’t wanted to touch the ring," I said, "please put it on me." He did and I squelled again and jumped in his arms.
It was the best night of my life thus far and I am so excited to start planning our wedding and the rest of our lives together. We have since moved in together and have started the wedding planning, August 2006, we will be hitched!
