When my husband Jordan decided to propose to me, he was a very poor pre-med student about to start medical school, and decided that he was going to surprise me. Fortunately, he found DCI and Fred helped him select the perfect ring. In the summer before he started medical school, we went on a camping trip across the desert southwest which culminated at the Grand Canyon.
Jordan hid the ring in its box inside a dirty sock next to the spare tire of our car to prevent me from accidentally coming upon it while we were camping. When we arrived at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on a beautiful afternoon in June, I so taken aback by the overwhelming scale of the view to even concieve that a proposal was forthcoming.
We went to Imperial Point, which is the highest point of the entire canyon, and Jordan set up a campfire and made us both hot chocolate to enjoy while waiting for the sun to start setting. In retrospect, I can appreciate how nervous he was, but at the time it just seemed like the perfect afternoon. When the sky started to look like a watercolor painting, we went out onto the overlook to enjoy the sunset. We were the only two people as far as the eye could see, and it was an exhilarating feeling.
While we were standing infront of the most incredible scenery I have ever seen, Jordan got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so stunned that I must have said yes a hundred times. It was the perfect proposal, and the perfect engagement ring that I wear today is a constant reminder of that moment and of the wonderful man that is my husband.
