We were poor and I was very pregnant and we lived together but I never wanted to bug him about a wedding or ring for I knew we could in no way afford it. Around Valentines day a local radio station was having a contest that would pay for your wedding, ring, reception and the whole kit and ka boodle. Since I never listened to the radio I had no clue what so ever that this was going on.
The day of the contest my boyfriend said he needed to work on the car and locked himself in the garage with the radio. All day long he would come running in the house and make a mad dash for the phone. After a few minutes he would slam it down and walk back out side. After a few hours it made me nuts and I intercepted him the next time he came running in.
By late afternoon I had convinced myself he was cheating on me and I had found myself sneaking out to the garage to listen. BAM, he came slamming out the door in a mad dash for the house. He was so engrossed he didn’t even see me. As pregnant women sometimes do I broke into tears and feared the worst.
The next time he came running in I had decided that I could not take the unknowing and after he dialed the number I grabbed the phone out of his hands only to hear. " Caller number 14"
Puzzled I looked at him and was even more surprised when he asked if someone picked up.
He didn’t get down on one knee but seeing him go through all that was the most heartwarming thing I had ever had someone do for me.
