12) Past, Present, and Future

Under the guise of celebrating our 17 month ‘dating’
anniversary, I told my girlfriend that we were going to have a picnic,
but that’s all I told her. I took her to the courtyard garden of
the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, DC around 5 p.m.

After snacking on some shrimp cocktail (one of
her favorites), I gave her a stack of three small gift tins. Under
the lid of the first tin, I put a picture of us when we first met,
hanging out at the beach; included was a small vial of sand. In
the second tin was a picture of us from the Grand Canyon trip we
took the week before, along with 2 stones that we took home as keepsakes.
At this point, I told her that the 1st gift was for the past, the
2nd was for the present, and the 3rd is for the future, and that
I hoped our relationship would continue to get stronger, as from
sand to stone, to something stronger.
