Greg and I went to Blues Alley, a jazz club in DC, with some of our friends on Friday night. After leaving Blues Alley a few of us went over to Juste Lounge in DC for a little while. All night we were taking group pictures/pictures with other people. So, I didn’t think for a moment that this night would be the night he would propose. Well, we finally leave DC and we’re on our way home when Greg tells me he has a surprise for me. I was thinking that it was a Valentine’s Day gift because we didn’t do anything this year due to Greg having to work. Anyway, we finally get to the door and Greg blindfolds me before letting me come in. Once he was sure that I wasn’t peeking and that I really couldn’t see anything he let me in and directed me to the spot he wanted me to be at. Then, he starts to sing a song he wrote…
"Someone to love you, it’s the greatest gift in the worldSomeone to kiss you, and is proud to be your girl
Someone to hold you, to feel the passion they possess,
Someone to touch you, to feel the life in their caress.
When I was a child, I acted like a child
When I was a child, I thought like a child
But when I became a man, I put those childish things away
And now that I’ve become a man, I am proud to truly say:
Take your blindfold off…
(At this point I’m following instructions and I remove the blindfold. I look around and look to my right and notice a huge portrait. The first thing that catches my eye is my face because it was at the top of the portrait. Then, as my eyes scroll down the portrait I am captured by an image of Greg down on his knees holding a diamond ring, which is sparkling in a little black box. Instantaneously I began to cry because I realized what was happening. All this time, Greg is still singing his song to me…)
Take your blindfold off
And open up your heart to the possibilities of you and me
Will you marry me, will you be my wife and queen?
I’m the only one for you, and you’re the only one for me
Together we can stand, we can conquer anything
Just promise that you’ll be my wife
And I’ll treasure you for all our lives
We can climb any mountain, cross any sea
Together you and I can conquer anything
Will you marry me, be my wife?
Will you marry me, be my wife? (Repeat)
Toward the end of the song, Greg gets down on his knee and is performing the act of the portrait. I’m still in tears so I can’t verbally say yes. But, I shake my head and I burst into more tears when he puts on the ring. When I thought it was all said and done, Greg pulled out a coupon I had given him about two years ago on our 1 year anniversary, which read:
"This ticket is good for my hand in marriage
(Better hold on to this one for a couple of years)"
I cried and cried and cried. I am now no longer Priscilya Marie "my girl", I am officially Priscilya Marie, "my fiance’"
