Brian and I met almost two years ago through a mutual friend. Our first date started with a text message over the phone that I sent to him saying, "I want to watch the stars with you." That night we sat under the stars and talked for hours. Brian and I have been together from that moment on. We like to travel and take spontaneous little vacations as often as possible. This vacation was not spontaneous nor was it short; we were planning a vacation the week before Easter but almost didn’t go. On March 29, Brian totaled his motorcycle and had quite a few bumps and bruises, not to mention the large amounts of road rash! I thought the vacation was a sure loss, but I was so thankful that he was OK, it didn’t matter. After a few days of tender loving care, we decided to still go to Raleigh to visit my dad for 5 days followed by Myrtle Beach visiting friends for 4 days. It was a very uncomfortable ten hours from New York to Raleigh for Brian to sit still, but he really wanted to go, regardless of his discomfort.
While in Raleigh, we relaxed most of the time and let him heal before heading to the beach. We got to the beach around 9pm on Thursday night. Brian wanted to go for a walk on the beach at night but myself and our two friends all said, "No." The next day we laid on the beach, and relaxed a little more. That night he started bugging us to go for a walk on the beach. I finally said to our friends, "Come guys, let’s just go so he’ll stop bugging us!"
So there we were, walking on the beach under very few stars and no moon. Brian stops me and hands me a folder. As I’m struggling to read it our friend Lisa tries to help. We finally read the front that said, "Name a Star." I opened it and it said something about such and such a star has been named Danielle Marie. He wrote in there, "I told you I would find a way to give you the stars, and this is my way, Love, Brian." I spun around and hugged him then turned my back (so the little bit of light was over my shoulder). I was looking at a map of the stars when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Brian getting down on one knee. I spun back around and he said, "Now I want you to be my star forever, will you marry me?" My first response was, "Are you joking?" then he repeated his question and I said YES!!
Come to find out, Brian told my father his intentions while we were in Raleigh and my step mom was also informed. He kept the ring a secret since January with only his sister knowing where it was. Brian designed the ring himself at a local jeweler. It has four points just like a stars light in the middle of the night sky. It’s a marquise diamond with three rounds on either side. The rounds are formed into a triangular shape. I couldn’t have designed anything better! We are getting married October of 2005.
