Being only one of the days in which it did not rain during our Christmas vacation, my boyfriend, Zach, had invited me to spend a day in San Francisco, our home town. Now living on the east coast; it had been so long since either of us had been there enjoying the tourist attractions. First we did a little shopping at the Embarcadero shopping center, lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf and then walked down to Pier 39. (Pier 39 is where Zach and I had this big romantic date when we first started dating. Which we actually marked that date as the first day we became an official, exclusive couple).
I should have known something funny was going on. Zach was getting phone calls from his brother (or so he said), and he was telling him where in the city we were. Zach said that his brother was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and was going to try to meet up with us possibly. Later as we are walking down Pier 39 and Zach says he needs to use the restroom and I sit on a bench near by just gazing around. I look up on the balcony and notice that my best friend, Jennie (who I have not seen in about 7 months) is standing on the top balcony. I get up and wave hello to her and look for a stair case to go up and see her. Then I look up and she is gone.
So I call her cell phone and get her answering machine. She finally calls me back and says she was shopping with her Mom and that they were running late so she just wanted me to stop by her house after later after we left the city. I thought she was being a little rude, but I brushed it off and Zach came out of the restroom and we continued our walk. When we got to the end of the pier, we stopped and enjoyed the view. That was when Zach had me turn around and face him. He started to tell me how much he loved me and the way his voice was quivering I knew what was going to happen. He had a little speech prepared (and now claims that he did not say everything he had planned) but it was nice and sweet And of course he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
After I said, "yes" and we were hugging suddenly I heard a familiar voice asking us to look up to take a picture. In front of me was Zach’s best friend Josh who had been secretly following us all day to take pictures of the event. Then I was told to look up on the balcony where I discovered that my best friend Jennie was up there taking pictures also. Of course it had been Josh and Jennie that Zach was talking to all along helping us capture pictures of our special moment.
