5) Meet Me at The Eiffel Tower

“John” and I had been dating for only 6 weeks when I was headed off to Austria on June 26th for a 2 month backpacking trip with my sister. “John” was leaving a week later for a trip to Austrlia (yes the other side of the world!). Before he left he had a diamond picked out and left it with a jewelsmith to get the engagement ring made while he was away for 5 weeks. He had lined up a flight back home to Canada to pick up the ring just before jumping on another flight to Paris, France (just 2 days in Canada). “John” had been in contact with my sister, “Jackie”, who was keeping him informed on our travels through Europe.

On August 22 “John” arrived in Paris and he contacted my sister to find out where we were. Well, “Jackie” had a tough time trying to get me off the beaches on Spain after backpacking for 6 weeks when she was trying to convince me to go to Paris. As it turns out we had a family friend that only “Jackie” had met who lived in Paris and she was able to use her as a reason for us to get there that night. Shannon had told me that the family friend would meet us at the Eiffel Tower at 7:30pm that night as it was the easiest place to find once we arrived in Paris.

Well….”Jackie” go with me to the Eiffel Tower at about 7:45 and we were standing directly under the Eiffel Tower when I felt a pair of hands on my hips and I was spun around and I was looking at “John”!!! He was supposed to me at home in Canada on vacation with his parents where i had just spoken to him 2 days before!! He pulled out the ring and just as her bent down on one knee and asked me to marry him, the Eiffel Tower immediately lit up in sparkling lights (which is does every hour as we later found out) he just happened to pick that moment to go down on one knee!! I immediately said YES!! And we had an amazing week in Paris together after that planning our December wedding. Definetely the most amazing and romantic surprise that anyone could ever hope for. I love you “John”!!! “Jane”
