When I decided to propose to my wife, I was a graduate student in Houston and she was working in Dallas. We had discussed getting engaged, but we wanted to ask her parents blessings before I officially proposed. We decided to go and visit her parents in Louisiana one weekend to tell them our plans. What she didnt know was that I planned to propose that weekend. I skipped my afternoon classes that Friday and drove to her parents house before she got there. I told them about my plans, asked for their blessings, and swore them to secrecy before my wife arrived. I had told her that we would talk to them on Sunday of that weekend.
Since we lived in different cities and didnt see each other more than every 2 to 3 months, I told her that we were going to take that Saturday night and do something special. My wife and I met in college, and the school is about an hour from her parents house. She has relatives that she wanted to visit near the school, so I told her that after we saw them, we should go to our old college town for dinner. Of course, I planned this all along. We had dinner at a restaurant that we frequented while we were dating. After dinner, I told her that we should hang out for a while before driving back to her parents house. On our first date in college, we spent most of the evening talking by the football stadium on campus. It only seemed right to me that I should propose on the spot where we started dating.
We hung out for a while and then I told her that I had something to ask her. At this point, she started to figure something out. I dropped to one knee, told her how much I loved her, and asked her to marry me. After a few seconds of crying, she said yes. This year, we will celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.
