My life changed the night that I decided to go to a benefit holiday party at a local martial arts studio. My friends called and encouraged me to go with them, I hadn’t been able to go out in a long time as I was working 70-100 hours a week. I happily accepted and while there met a young school teacher with the brightest eyes and smile that I had ever seen. We sat throughout the party and traded stories of our enjoyment of our professions and our varied interests. I knew that these chance meetings were for a reason and that I had to ask to see her again. She accepted and our whirlwind romance began.
Within three months I knew that she was everything I could ever dream of. She was always cheerful, radient and filled me with a warmth and energy that I had never felt before. Happily she was having similar feelings and we knew that we wanted to spend our lives together.
When we started looking for our engagement ring, Amy came across a ring she had been given by her grandmother. It contained her grandmother’s engagement diamond, her great grandmother’s diamond and her great great grandmother’s diamond. The setting was thin and frail with age. She asked if I would consider using any of the diamonds in our ring. I enthusiastically agreed that we should and once we had selected our diamond it was set between her grandmother’s and great grandmother’s diamonds. The remaining diamond was set into a pendant for her maid of honor, her sister.
I asked Amy to marry me in May while sitting along the banks of a brook in the picturesque New England park in the center of our town. We watched the ducks and geese swim by while eating a picnic lunch that I had made. I brought along a camera, claiming that I had to use the film up so that I could develop the film for obusiness reasons. I asked her to marry me and showed her the completed ring for the first time. She accepted as the tears rolled down her cheeks. We have the photographs to remind us of that perfect day.
We were married the following summer on a bright August day in a church that overlooked our engagement park. We have been living blissfully ever since and two weeks ago welcomed into the world our new baby daughter.
