We decided that in the midst of our busy schedules and lives, we were both going to take the day off of work and school so we could spend an entire day together. I thought we would just hang out, maybe catch a movie and some dinner. But no! He had much bigger and better plans!
When he came to pick me up, he had a rose and a card with a little piece of candy taped to the inside. After thanking him, I put it in my room and then we left for lunch at Chili’s – where we had our very first date. When we were finishing lunch, the waiter called my name, found me, and gave me a rose and a card with a piece of candy taped inside! This happened on the train to Chicago, at the ESPN Zone, and an ice cream shop. Random people somehow found me and gave me a rose and a card with a piece of candy taped inside.
At Navy Pier, we decided to take a boat ride because Jason had a buy one get one free coupon, but that boat was closed. So, we rushed to catch another one, and low and behold! There were 3 roses and a card with a piece of candy in it at the ticket booth!!! (I found out that the three roses symbolized our first kiss on our 3 month anniversary, which happened to be on a boat.)
After the boat ride, we went to the top of the John Hancock building and watched the sun set from there. It was sooo beautiful! Oh, and I received another rose and card, etc.
Next, we went to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner where I was given another rose and card with a piece of candy in it from the waitress. As we left, we noticed that there was a limo parked in front. Jason had never been in one, so he asked the limo driver, whose name was John, if he could just look inside. The limo driver said yes and even let us sit in it. Then John said, "In fact, I have time right now if you want to take a quick ride!" We said, "Sure!" He ended up taking us back to the Hancock where Jason and I got cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. John had given Jason his card, so before leaving, Jason decided to thank him again for taking us on the ride. Then, Jason told me that John said he’d take us on another if we’d like to, and of course we took it!
He stopped near the Adler Planetarium where there is a gorgeous view of the city and it was there that Jason told me he had hired John. John took us back to Mundelein to St. Mary’s Seminary and dropped us off at Jason’s car. How it got there, I don’t know!! Jason pulled out a radio from his trunk and told me that he thought it’d be nice if we could dance in one of the rooms. We got to the building where he wanted to go, but it was locked so we had to call security. The security came and unlocked it, but the room Jason wanted to go in was also locked, and the security couldn’t open it. So, we settled for another room and danced to a couple romantic songs until Jason told me he wanted to show me something in the tape deck of the radio.
He opened the deck and there was a little book/card. I took it out, read it, and when I got to the last page, he was on his knee and I saw a ring – the same size as the candies I’d been getting – taped to it. He asked me if I would marry him and I told him, "YES!!!" (He told me later that the room that was locked had a candle so we could dance by candlelight and his guitar so he could sing me a song that he wrote for me.) When I got back to my room, I found a big teddy bear and a card on my bed. It was the most perfect, wonderful day ever!!!! The End.
