God gave me a vision while I was in college that I would move to a big city, live by water, work in robotics, and find my mate. Well 3 out of 4 were correct within the first 8 months of my residence in Houston. One night I prayed for a friend to share my time with and an hour later Calvin called. We had a really good "friendly" conversation. The phone calls started coming every 3 days, then every other day, then every day, then 2 to 3 times a day. We started going different places to hang out in groups, then occasionally by ourselves, then always by ourselves. Still just "friendly" conversations and "friendly" hanging out. He accompanied me to a baptism I was attending in New Orleans and we stayed at his mom’s house. After the baptism we went to have brunch in a restaurant that overlooked the Mississippi River. During brunch he fed me a piece of cake and then the thoughts started; "Was that a "friendly" gesture?", "Are these "friendly" feelings that I am having?", "Could there be more?", "Would there be more?", and "Do I want more?". The answers were: no, no, yes, yes, and yes indeed. That little piece of cake started the most beautiful courtship imaginable.
The courtship lasted exactly one year. On our one year anniversary we went back to the place where we first started the "I like you", "I am courting you because you are my future husband/wife", and "Let’s grow together in Christ". Calvin wanted us to take a picture together when we first got there. We walked around to all the little spots that we have visited exactly one year prior to that date. After we finished our journey down memory lane, he gave me a prayer to read. It was a prayer to God acknowledging that as the last day that we would walk separately as two and now be joined in His sight as one (the purpose of the picture), and thanking God for our friendship, our love, and our union. After I finished reading the prayer, he said "Shalika, I love you and I want to spend life eternally with you. Will you marry me?". I responded with a heart overflowing with love and emotion "I have dreamed of this moment and it by no means compares to this very moment. Yes. Yes. Yes."!
So in a few months the vision that God gave me will have completely come to pass. Well, I live in Houston, near Clear Lake, working as a robotics engineer, married to Calvin. What a dream come true!!
