rose-cut diamonds

Topic: Cost

Q

Hi Fred,
I’ve been looking at rings, and one of my favorites has a large, flat, rose-cut diamond. I’m between that and one that’s about the same price, but an asscher cut, around the same carat weight. In terms of value, should a rose-cut diamond cost less? I don’t plan on ever selling it, but I still want to know it’s going to retain the value I’ve paid for it.
Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

If the Asscher is well cut (65/65), then yes the rose cut should be heavily discounted! Sadly, rose cuts have a very poor secondary market value:(
